Thanksgiving Day is just around the corner so if you’re on one of OPTAVIA’s Plans, you are likely already thinking about your menu. This may take days to prepare, but your health goals should be top-of-mind at all times. Thanksgiving may not be the healthiest of holidays, but there are some ways to enjoy your favorite dishes while keeping your health goals in mind. Here are some tips for making healthy selections this Thanksgiving:
Load up on veggies. Fill at least half of your plate with non-starchy vegetables, such as green beans or a salad. Remember, the greener the better!
Enjoy skinless turkey breast. Stick to skinless white meat which is low in fat and high in tryptophan, a nutrient that supports healthy levels of serotonin.
Savor every bite. Take your time and enjoy every taste. Eating slowly can also help you feel full and avoid overeating.
TIPS FOR A HEALTHY THANKSGIVING
While food is a large focus of this holiday, it’s not the essence. Keep in mind that it’s all about moderation and being present in the moment. Here are some ways to enjoy the holiday with loved ones without food being at the center:
Volunteer to help clean up. Instead of picking at leftovers, offer to help the host clear the table and wash dishes. Removing yourself from the table will help take attention away from the food and your host will appreciate the kind gesture.
Go for a post-meal walk. After a meal, go on a group walk with friends and family. You’ll be able to continue your conversation away from the table while burning some calories.
Consider donating leftovers. Donate your leftovers to a shelter or non-profit organization to spread cheer to others during the holiday season and honor the purpose of the holiday.
Equipped with Healthy Habits, we can give ourselves, and others, the gift of health this holiday season.

The Blessing of Life
“Almost two years ago I started my journey to better health where I was 450 pounds and today I am 252 pounds.* I was very sick and could hardly even walk and would get winded just walking across a room.”
Stan had been obese for most of his adult life and experienced frustration after trying several programs with no results. He had even gained weight on some programs.
“I have had people tell me that I cheated and wasn’t actually following their program because their program had worked for others.”
Deciding to give it one more try, Stan committed to the OPTAVIA Program. He soon discovered that eating the right combination of food every two to three hours made him less hungry. This was unlike any other program he had attempted before.
“This has been a miracle for me and has changed my life. Not only can I do things that I couldn’t do in years, I have all this energy like I was in my twenties again. I can just go and go!”
Stan’s energy levels increased drastically and his transformation made it easier for him to enjoy new physical activities that he hadn’t considered before. Some of his new hobbies include snowshoeing, golf, outdoor camping, swimming, and bodysurfing.
“I hike up the mountains now eight miles and when I am done, I am not even tired and could go more if I wanted to. I would have to sit down after standing for five minutes and now I can stand for hours without tiring.”
Stan’s success gave him a new perspective on life and the chance to live anew, which he now shares with his Clients as an OPTAVIA Coach.
“I have my life back again. This has been the greatest blessing of my life because now I can have a life.”
